How United Way invests your donations
Your concern is understandable, ensuring that donor dollars go to creating the greatest impact possible in the community is our highest concern too. The article you highlight describes incidents within a United Way in Charlotte, North Carolina. It is very important to note that each of the 1,300 local chapters of United Way, including United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, are independent 501(c)3 organizations that were created by their distinct communities and are governed by their own local Board of Directors. We are not only independently operated, we are proud of our record of accountability and transparency in our region of greater Boston and Merrimack Valley.
Posted on our site are a copy of our Form 990 and a statement on our accountability.
If you have any concerns about your donation, please contact our offices at 617-624-8000 and we will be able to answer any questions you may have about your investment. Children and families throughout Massachusetts depend on the funds we are able to invest into the community. Which means they depend on donors like you. Please let us know if you have any further questions so that support for our community continues to be strong.
